On July 12, 2017, the US-Asia Executive Development Program (UAEDP) welcomed six students from Chongqing University of Science and Technology (CQUST) to Chicago. These six are the inaugural students in the new MS in Mathematics program based on an agreement between UIC and CQUST.
UAEDP staff met the students at the airport and transferred them to their apartments. The next day, UAEDP provided a campus tour and handled the logistics for newly arrived students, while answering any questions the group may have had to make their transition to Chicago easier.
On Friday, July 14th, the students met with staff from OIS to learn more about maintaining their immigration status, and then later with the UIC Department of Mathematics and the UIC Tutorium in Intensive English (TIE) to discuss their academic and language programs.
Of course, no welcome to Chicago would be complete without Chicago-style pizza. The new students and UIC staff enjoyed pizza at Giordano’s to truly give them a “taste of Chicago”.
